Poppy Cottage

This delightful two-bedroom country cottage is built in the traditional Norfolk manner using flint and red brick and dates back to 1859 and is nestled in the picturesque village of Briston in North Norfolk. Poppy Cottage sleeps 5 with two double beds and one single in two bedrooms although the single has a partial wall divider for a little privacy. It boasts its own private garden, typical of such a lovely cottage in the country, a well-appointed bathroom with both a shower and a bath, a cosy lounge with two sofas and a wood-burner, a well-equipped kitchen, and a separate dining area.

Briston, while a delightful village in its own right (and crucially sporting not just one, but two, pubs) is well-positioned for those looking to explore North Norfolk and beyond. The traditional market town of Holt (10 minutes drive) is a beacon for visitors all year round, and it and its number of excellent coffee shops are not to be missed! Wells-Next-The-Sea (a 25-minute drive) is a beautiful sandy beach, unusually fringed by woodland, and must also be visited. Cromer and Sheringham (25-30 minutes) are quite typical seaside towns offering all the usual sea-side treats. Cley (15-20 minutes) provides a wonderful avian habitat of coastal marshes; a location that will be on the Go-To list for any bird-watcher. Finally (but by no means exhaustively) the Norfolk Broads are a mere 35-40 minutes away and need little introduction, we are sure!

In short, Poppy Cottage is a great base for families, walkers, cyclists, and bird-watchers alike! Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

The Kitchen

Poppy Cottage offers a well-equipped kitchen. It provides a hob with oven, microwave, washing machine, and of course the fundamental kettle and toaster! Positioned just off the living room, there’s no need for the appointed cook to be tucked away while preparing dinner!

The Living Room

A wonderfully cosy living room with a wood-burning stove provides a lovely place to relax after a long day exploring the beautiful Norfolk countryside. A couple of good quality, snug sofas, a good-sized coffee table, and a TV complete the essentials and because completely disconnecting from the rest of the world isn’t always possible – even if desirable – there’s Wi-Fi internet provided too.

The Garden

A good-sized cottage garden provides a lovely space to enjoy the warmer months with garden furniture to relax and eat al-fresco.

Parking

On-street parking with no restrictions.

Surrounding Area

Briston has a plethora of services available to guests, including a garage, butchers, bakers, grocers, wet fish, and a co-op store.  Also in Briston are two pubs, The Explorers and The Three Horseshoes Pub which has a restaurant and beer garden for the summer, the latter being within easy walking distance to Poppy Cottage. Multiple takeaway/home delivery  Chinese and Indian restaurants can be found in the next village of Melton Constable just a few minutes away.

Nearby Holt and Fakenham have larger supermarkets Budgens, Bakers and Larners, Tescos and Morrisons.

Suggested places to visit

Poppy Cottage is situated in the village of Briston in the picturesque Norfolk Countryside.

The cottage is only a short drive from the historic market town of Holt, a regular haunt of the Royal family when in Sandringham. There are regular shops and amazing cafes together with plenty of antiques and bookshops.  A new addition here is a homemade ice cream shop, a real must in the summer.

Nearby are Morston (bird reserve and seal viewing trips) Blakeney, Cley and Salthouse. A little further along the coast gets you to Sheringham, Cromer and Wells-next-the-Sea in the opposite direction. The North Norfolk Railway at Sheringham runs steam trains past the golf course and through the countryside.

Golfing is a real pleasure in Norfolk with some high quality and mature links courses at Cromer, Sheringham and Hunstanton to name just three.  For the golfing beginner or someone who wants a shorter game, there are 9 hole courses in west Runton, Mundesley and Fakenham on the racecourse.

A day at the Fakenham races is a great day out if you are lucky enough to book when a meeting is planned, why not take a picnic and chairs.

Norwich is a 40-minute drive away to the South East as is Kings Lynn to the South West. The Norfolk Broads is a short driving distance away as are Blickling, Felbrigg and Holkham estates, which are all great days out too.

A picnic overload or an occasional fish and chip supper are what holidays can be made of.

Just remember to make memories that you can treasure.
