Wells Next The Sea

Wells Next The Sea

Wells Next The Sea is often described as one of the most attractive towns in North Norfolk.  Welsl has a long stretch of pale sand bordered by pine woodland and multi-coloured beach huts. There is also a small harbour with fishing boats. The town centre has Georgian houses, independent shops and a tree-lined park.  In all the years of history Wells Next The Sea has somehow remained unspoilt.  This is even more surprising as it seems to grow in popularity every year.

Wells can be the perfect mixture of quiet and energetic holiday days.  you could spend time crabbing with the kids or exciting water sports and family fun.  With outstanding natural beauty, Wells Next The Sea is a charming English coastal town. The town has so much to offer, such as craft fairs, fetes, art exhibitions.  tehre are many shows and local events being run throughout the year.  The most notable event of the year is the Wells Carnival.  The event which is a week of fun and games and has its own carnival procession.  the procession is filled with floats made by the towns residents, fancy dress and plenty of seaside activities to get involved with.

Doomsday Book

Recognised in the Domesday Book, Wells was renamed as Wells-next-the-Sea to distinguish it from other places that had also been named Wells, and it is by this name that the town is most widely known today.  Wells Next The Sea helps to form part of the largest coastal nature reserve in England and Wales, and as such makes it a very popular destination for bird watchers, wildlife experts and people looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Wells beach is one of the top rated in the country, winning ‘Beach of the Year’ in 2016 and it is perfect for bucket and spade activities, with wonderful soft sand stretching right up from the waves to the sand dunes.  Its famous beach huts, which are beautifully painted in bright colours and all have wonderfully silly names all adds to the character of this wonderful beach.  Perfectly picturesque and Instagram friendly, Wells is a great spot for photography too.

Walks

Wells is also home to the Norfolk Coastal Path and Peddars Way walks, which take you through the pine woodlands and if you walk or cycle far enough (roughly 2 miles) you will reach Holkham beach.

If you are looking for the perfect place to camp close to the coast, Wells Next The Sea has plenty to offer, with the most famous being Pinewoods Holiday Park.  Perfect for tents and caravans it is the most convenient place to stay if you want to be close to the beach.  And with Wells beach being mostly dog-friendly (with exception of one part along the east side), you can bring along your pet too.  It’s close proximity to the beach does not spoil the tranquillity though, as the sand dunes act as a natural sound barrier.

Wells is home to an abundance of seaside favourites; from amusement arcades and ‘proper’ fish and chips to ice cream stalls, narrow-gauge railways and quaint harbours.  With plenty of places to stay and with so much to see and do, Wells is the perfect choice for a North Norfolk holiday at any time of the year.
