Coastguard Cottage Now Available

Coastguard Cottage was first introduced on this blog at the end of July and is now ready to rent. You can read all about it on our website so we won’t repeat everything here. Instead, we will describe the general area and the experience of living on the edge of a cliff overlooking the North Sea.

Norfolk Coast Path

Below you can see a short section of the Norfolk Coast Path between Weybourne and Sheringham. You can actually see where the path is diverted behind Coastguard Cottage because the cliffs are now too close to the end of the garden. Don’t worry, it is perfectly safe and the garden is well fenced.

The Norfolk Coast Path runs for 84 miles from Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea. Much of this walking trail runs through the dramatic landscape of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The path runs through seaside towns and villages, tidal marshes teeming with wildlife, wide sandy beaches and pine woodlands. You can really appreciate North Norfolk’s huge skies.

The original Norfolk Coast Path combines with the Peddars Way which it joins at Holme-next-the-Sea. This forms the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path National Trail, one of 15 National Trails in England and Wales.

It is possible to walk in either direction from Coastguard Cottage as far as you like and then use public transport to get back to Weybourne. From there you can walk back to Coastguard Cottage. Or you can use the Coast Bus Service to take you to and from a specific walk further afield.

The coast guards used the cottage due to its natural vantage point and many of the original features are still there. The picture at the top of the page was the duty room and is now the lounge due to its views. For years there was a generator for electricity and now there are less noisy solar panels and batteries. The atmosphere inside is a bit like being on board a ship, with the wooden panelling. The cottage has been tastefully modernised and brought up to the latest health & safety standards to ensure a comfortable stay. However, you will have to rely on your mobile data signal as there is no internet service at the property. People come here to get away and unwind!
