    Blickling Hall

    Blickling Hall

Famed as the birthplace of Henry VIII’s second wife, Anne Boleyn, Blickling Hall dates back to the Doomsday book.

The Hall has had many owners during its chequered history.

The Hall and outbuildings were used during the Second World War to billet airmen from nearby RAF Oulton. The owner at the time was Lord Lothian, a key influence to Sir Winston Churchill.

The Estate is currently focussing on the life of Lord Lothian, the last private owner of the Estate. As well as being an influential figure during the Second World War, he was also a diplomat and editor of a newspaper. He was particularly interested in the Independence of India and in 1931 was Under-Secretary of State for India.

With so much rich history, The Estate offers various themed tours to help visitors uncover the secrets of the past.

The Jacobean mansion was sensitively altered in the 18th Century and the interior offers many architectural delights reflecting both periods. Original paintings by Gainsborough and Reynolds are showcased within the mansion which also houses an extensive library and a collection of tapestries.

The delightful gardens offer many Hidden Gems including secret tunnels, gardens, lakes and statues. Family walks through the larger estate will reveal the Orangery, Topiary and wilderness walks.
