Booking for : Holt

Nestled in the middle of North Norfolk lies the beautiful market town of Holt.  Surrounded by lush, greenery and just a short drive from the coast, Holt is by far one of the most unique and attractive towns to visit in Norfolk.  The town is all the better for a quaint marketplace, art galleries, antique shops and the 13th-century church of St Andrew.

Spend your day wandering along High Street before losing yourself in one of its many lanes and alleyways.  Many always hold some of Norfolk’s Hidden Gems such as courtyards and places to eat.  Stop by one of the antique bookshops before heading over to have a picnic in Holt Country Park?  Explore over 100 acres of woodland; surrounded by pine and silver birch trees and take a stroll down one of many nature trails before watching the kids play in an adventure playground.

    North Norfolk Railway

Holt is also conveniently located close to the famous North Norfolk Railway, where you can see both steam and diesel trains that are still running a service along the Poppy Line between Weybourne and Sheringham.  With special event services running throughout the year including murder mysteries, wedding receptions and Santa Specials, as well as a wealth of history to look at, it is well worth spending an afternoon here before heading back to Holt on the bus.

The town centre of Holt is home to many independent shops and traders; with gift shops, cafes and local run deli’s where you can order food for your day out and with enough to see and do for even the most avid of shoppers, Holt will have you shopping till you drop!

No North Norfolk town is complete without a local pub to sit and have a refreshing drink in and Holt has The King’s Head and The Feathers, which are both well known for their historic buildings, fine food and luxe rooms.

While you wander around, see how many times you can spot the owl. Just one of the many tales that make Holt so appealing, this pesky owl has been disturbing the town residents for many years, and always seems to evade capture!

    Surrounding area

Holt is also close to Baconsthorpe Castle and Letheringsett Windmill, which are both great places to visit.  Each has an interesting history to discover, with Letheringsett Windmill boasting the title of the only working windmill in Norfolk!  Get ready to step back in time and see how they make whole grain flour from locally grown wheat.

One of the best times to visit Holt is definitely at Christmas, as the whole town pulls together and becomes a veritable winter wonderland.  Almost every building is adorned with tiny white lights. Catch the switch-on in late November for one of the prettiest places to do some unique Christmas present shopping and maybe sing a carol or two.

Holt also has plenty of bed-and-breakfast locations and hotels for you to set up home in, or if you fancy setting up your tent and sleeping under the stars, there are many campsites situated just outside the town that you can book into.
