    Mannington Gardens

    Mannington Gardens

Mannington Gardens are the grounds of a medieval Manor House complete with a moat built during the 15th Century. The Hall was bought by Horatio Walpole during the 18th Century and has remained in the same family ever since.

The Hall itself is not always open to the public but Mannington Gardens is the main attraction here. On certain events and charity days, the ground floor may be included. It is a good idea to check before you visit if you are looking for a tour of the hall. It is possible to arrange visits outside of normal opening hours for touring parties and groups.

Over the centuries the planting that has been carried out in Mannington Gardens reflects the changing times.  Great care has been taken to include modern features which can be enjoyed by visitors of any age and ability.

Included on site are woodland walks through wildflower meadows and wild grasslands. Walking through the Norfolk countryside here allows the intrepid explorer to discover various historic buildings. On this expedition, you are sure to find the Sensory Garden with a plethora of plants to stimulate the sense of touch and smell.

Not all areas are wheelchair friendly due to the terrain but as many as possible have been made accessible. Seats have been placed at regular intervals and maps of the trails are available from the Information Centre.

Mannington Gardens and Hall grounds are a great picnic venue on summer days. If you do not want to cater for yourselves there are great catering options provided here in the grounds. After taking in all the flora and fauna The Greedy Goose tearooms is an excellent venue. Homemade treats such as tea and cake are available to eat inside. For people feeling more than a little peckish, more substantial food is available to take away.

Linking a visit to a country pub meal and the Saracen’s Head Public house is a great option nearby.
