‘The Gateway to The Norfolk Broads’, Wroxham has deep roots in the boating industry and has a rich maritime history that is still as relevant today as it was before.  Wroxham is the heart of the Norfolk Broads and has become a vibrant and exciting holiday destination for people wanting to enjoy the broads or just to explore the surrounding Norfolk landmarks, of which there are many.

Well connected by water and rail, Wroxham is a great place to set up a base, with plenty of self-catering accommodation to rent, well-known bed-and-breakfast establishments and hotels, and more camping and glamping nearby than you will know what to do with.

Local amenities

Wroxham is actually connected to Hoveton St John and it is there you will find most of the amenities.  Both are often referred to collectively as Wroxham and between them, they have an abundance of shops, pubs, restaurants and visitor attractions to keep you entertained.  At peak season, Wroxham is known to be very busy due to its location and affinity to the Norfolk Broads so be prepared for some hustle and bustle around that time, however it is so well managed that it still a pleasurable place to be; they have been doing this since the original boating boom of the Victorian times and are well prepared to handle the numbers.

Dryland

If boating is not your thing, there is still plenty to do and see in Wroxham from the shore.  Just 30 minutes drive away is the Fine City of Norwich, which is famous for its market, shopping lanes and rich connection to the arts.  Also within a 30-minute drive are the beautiful coastlines of North Norfolk’s beaches, which are full of soft sands and quaint market towns for you to explore.

You cannot visit Wroxham without noticing the dominant shopping brand of ‘Roys’ which is worth a wander, and you can also get your fix of retail therapy from the local shopping precinct, multiple gift shops and one of the largest boating shops in the region.

Wroxham is an all-year-round resort and is just as beautiful, if not a little quieter in the winter months, with plenty of parks and rivers to walk along on a crisp morning.  You can also hop on the Bure Valley Railway, which stops in Wroxham and will take you on an 18 mile round trip to Norfolk’s stunning countryside and you can see both steam and diesel trains here which are a treat for any trainspotter.

For the craft lovers amongst you, not far from the little church of St Peter you will find Wroxham Barns, where you can enjoy a visit to its working craft centre and watch live demonstrations from crafters showcasing their skills.  They are always more than happy to have a chat as they work too and will no doubt give out little tips and tricks.  These demonstrations include stained glass, clothing, pottery and even Norfolk cider, and you can finish your day by purchasing some of the products in their gift shop to take home with you.
